Snake with a working leg and claws killed in China

It’s a fascinating look at Atavism or more commonly known as Evolutionary Throwback. Every so often previously used genes from ancestors reemerge. In the case of the snake it was a case of the leg genes from an ancestor that kicked it. In all living things we contain a log of traits that have been catalogued and stored in our DNA, however as time goes by and Natural Selection takes its course things fade away, but every so often a trigger or release of the preserved gene is ignited and something happens.

Recent cases have shown whales and dolphins with hind legs, Horses with extra toes, chicken with teeth, and oh yeah… US!

That’s right we have it to. What kind of things you may ask, well most common is a tail, but lesser known traits are enlarged teeth or canine teeth, and extra breasts and nipples.

In closing deep down we all have some extra junk in our trunk. Now with the Human Genome Project a success, what do we do with this extra stuff?

If I had to guess, I would say there’s a lot of people that would be interested in the whole “Chimpanzee are as strong as four humans” thing.

Expect some Super-Serious new Olympic Records to be set in 10 years.
