Welfare

I had a talk with my Mom today and she was telling me about how my aunt, her children, and grandchildren came over to visit my Grandparents. We haven’t seen much of them over the last couple of decades mostly due to her being the black sheep of the family.

My Aunt is well known by my family as being a drug addict, former prostitute, and con artist. She actually stole my Great Grandmothers wedding ring, and has been extorting my Grandparents for years, using scams and guilt trips to get what she wants.

Since the passing of my father she’s been working a lot more to get more involved with my family even though she didn’t make it to the funeral. Once my father passed away it opened the door more for her to get back into the fold, and unfortunately my Grandfathers billfold.

In her life she had three children; The oldest is her black son, second a white son, and a Native American daughter. When my Aunt brought her family by recently it consisted of nineteen people.

My mother jokingly said, “When they all walked down the sidewalk it was like looking at all the colors of the rainbow.”

I had a pretty damn good laugh at that, and it had nothing to do with race for me (Though I think it was for my mom)

With that chunk of the family it really is about the quality of people that they are, not their race(s).

My aunt during her worst days as a hooker and addict was impregnated with her pimps child (His name was Roundtree. We know this because he made her get it tattooed on her neck). The other children I’m not sure if anyone in the family ever knew who the fathers where. When she had three kids she started doing what she could to either get money from my Grandparents or the State in the form of Welfare and handouts.

Her children where raised by the money and food provided from the state of Washington and with the raising of a manipulative mother who bullshitted herself into believing that the WORLD owed her and passed that attitude to her children and who from what my mom has said is passing that down to their children.

The two boys have both spent several stints in jail and prison, and have had multiple children with different woman. Some of their children where described as just being like them and wandering around peoples houses just looking for things to steal.

My mom as told me that one of the boys who was 11 was begging for a stamp, not for any reason other then he desperately NEEDED to get something for free from someone. This is the ethic that’s been passed down. This is the character that’s been instilled into 2 generations of this part of my family tree.

This has sort of added to the whip cream to the shit sundae on my feelings that are our countries Welfare system. Is it possible that maybe social programs that where started with the best of intentions such as helping to feed, clothe, shelter, and educate all of our children has perhaps damaged a segment of the population to the point of no repair?

We might also be the only country this could happen in. I think it speaks volumes to the fact that we just seem to have money to throw around. I always hear about our national debt and how its in the trillions yet somehow when you look at what the first thing that is that if our nations economic stability is at risk then you would think logically government social services would have to be the first to be cut. And we can kind of are now. Yet we never stop giving handouts.

So I’m thinking to myself whats the point of having such services? The public relations side is to show that we are a compassionate loving country that takes care of its citizens. But whats the real reason we would do it. When you spend money in the trillions you are really looking at it as an investment.

You are investing in the population to get them off their feet and give them options in life and chances to try and open doors to get out of your rut and start giving back and putting more in. Its supposed to motivate people to strive for greatness while not having to worry so much about the floor falling from under you. It sounds like a great thing to provide for its people.

So whats the problem?

The people! We are the fucking problem. Americans are the fucking problem. There is nothing an American loves more then getting something for free and not having to work for it. Nothing better then a paid three day weekend, big tax return, showered with Christmas gifts, and a scratch ticket that gets you free Egg McMuffin.

As a culture we are spoiled and rotten. Its not so much the joy of getting something free every once in awhile, its that we demand it all the time. And that’s just your average American. Now take our poorest individuals and supply them with all they need for not doing anything. Whats the motivation to rise up to something better? There isn’t, and even worse its depressing. Work sucks, but at least it gets your ass up in the morning and gives you some sense of purpose.

We are supposed to work for what we have. We work for our common good and we get in return the ability to support yourself and family. As well as get that “pat-on-the-back” feeling. Maybe you don’t enjoy what your doing but at least your doing! You are contributing in your own little way to EVERYTHING!

So if you have a percentage of your population that is doing nothing other then taking and giving back nothing then you start doing some mental-social-accounting and think whats the real fucking problem then?

We have a system that’s too giving and unmotivating. I don’t blame people for not trying, why would they. And if you want to talk about unmotivating then add some depression to it which is the most unmotivating thing in the world.

Is this something that’s fixable. I don’t think so. Mostly because while we have politicians that cater to the laziness of the masses then we will maintain the programs that preserve it.

The part of my family that my Aunt is the patriarch of is nothing more then Social and Economic Terrorists. They are robbing and attacking us.

The sad thing is if your thinking about this the way I am then you have to ask yourself the question that would be given to anyone debate on the subject. “Do I just take away Welfare and let children starve or live on the streets?”

My Answer is no. I don’t think we should take it away. There is a part of my brain that thinks one of the worst things that anyone can do is take things away from you. Here is a group of people that don’t know any different, and that has been taught, reinforced, and built upon over generations now. Taking it away would be inhumane.

Good job America, keep it up.

So…. As much as the idea of the Government providing healthcare to everyone in the country I have to look at the result of our welfare system and feel the similar things will happen. Just a colossal free pass that costs lots of money and we get little back in return.

Now it seems to work fairly well in other countries, but guess what? Those are other countries, this is America. We are too selfish, needy, and lazy. We will exploit and take advantage of. And if it happens it will be the thing politicians use as a carrot over voters as a fear tactic to get people on their side.

Can you imagine a generation from now if the country has had Universal Healthcare and we hit a crisis and have to cut some money somewhere, and we “Logically: look at Healthcare, what do you think we would do? We would be helpless and pathetic. We would cry for our free stuff back, god forbid we work for it.

I’ll get into Healthcare another day, there’s too much to get into and this blog is getting long, but I’ll end this with one more piece of history of my Aunts life and her use of our countries Social Services.

Now at this point I think I’ve done an okay job of painting a picture of her quality as a person. Now think of this, the only legitimate job she ever had was working for the government. For a few years in the 90’s she was a foster parent.

Think about that.

We PAID HER to raise children!
